Beau Chateau cards from August 20

These are cards from last night's class.  Everyone had a packet of 10 blank cards, Beau Chateau paper, Matching Beau Chateau Notes, and the First Edition Specialty paper. I added bits and pieces of buttons and metal along with 12 yards of ribbon.

August class

Since this is the last in the series, I put together a special night. You'll have bags with 10 cards (5 different colors), various papers from Blue Chateau and Newsprint, items from the coordinating Blue Chateau Notes, 9 pieces of ribbon, some fabric flowers and...enough bits and pieces to decorate your cards.

I will also have the card stock ready for you to make the boxes in which you'll stow your cards.

You won't be finishing tomorrow but that's okay! I figure that everyone is going to be too busy to get together again until the end of September.

July cards

I'm planning my next class and intend to have a great set of choices for the stationery challenge. I decided to use use Beau Chateau along with Marina Mist and Pink Pirouette paper.

I ordered the extra little pieces that are in the back of the catalog so everyone will be able to do some fabulous cards. I'm working on the designs now... and will post my stuff before class. If I remember! I will put up the cards from class after we meet.

Until then, four more cards from our June and July classes.

More glossy paper adventures

We did several different cards last night, but the one with the most surprising results were the mistake cards.  We used the Plant Hope stamps and applied them on to glossy paper that had been treated using the polished stone technique.  I (thought) I came prepared to have everyone make this card, but once at Panera realised that the background paper was at home on top of my Big Shot (I could see myself setting it there while I replaced the die...). Yikes! What to do?

As it turned out, I had large sheets of 8.5 x 11 inch glossy paper in my bag - just in case.

As it turned out EVERYONE really loved filling all of the glossy paper with the polished stone technique.  I had two boxes of die re-inkers with me (12 per box) so everyone used multiple colors to create different effects.  My samples only use the glossy paper is just used for the image pieces, but everyone embraced the idea of creating a scene scape and went to town. I have to say that the best results were from Hannah (Sharon's granddaughter and Kelley's niece) and Donna. Arrrgh, they left before I got the photos I wanted -

Petite Pocket Die

Here is the result of some late night machinations. On the front of the card I used a pop-up butterfly to keep the pocket flap closed. And on the inside, I crimped the pocket, cut the pocket flap off, and reversed the paper so I could leave it open.

Stamps: Kindness Matters, Nature Walk, Nature's Pace
Papers: DSP Botanical Gazette, Pear Pizzaz and Crumb Cake
Inks: Versimark, Choclate Chip

Glossy paper part two

I'm getting ready for July 24's class and I am going to continue the "glossy paper experiement" with the polished stone technique. To do something a bit different I'll use the new in colors and hope to have a few cards to post here before class.

I'm using the mini folders and the oval punch to make two simple cards. And the last two projects will be using the Petite Pockets die.

I'm going to be showing a number of the new sets and papers as well.

I best get to work so I can post the photos before class!

Stamp and Scrap tour

I'll be going our to Monroeville this weekend for the Stamp and Scrap Tour, http://www.stampscraparttour.com/infopage.asp?id=13. I went last year and picked up some neat ideas during the Friday night classes. I think that I'll go back again on Sunday to see what the other vendors are promoting...only 8 or 9 vendors will teach on Friday night.

Anyhow, I'm taking the camera and the new card to capture ideas. I'll post them here.

Ordering from the new catalog

I couldn't stop myself. After a month of writing my lists up, I have placed the July order. And since this is my birthday month I was able to get the new Petite Pocket Sizzix die with the birthday discount. SCORE! Had to have the new Designer Frames and Stripes folders. I have an idea about how to incorporate all three....

As promised I got the Beau Chateau and Side notes. I think that this will be a very satisfying set of papers to work with. My stamp choices compliment the papers I selected and so I am VERY anxious to see everything. I also (first time for me) ordered one of the scrap kits. I think that all three of the choices this catalog are interesting... but they are kind of hidden away from the DSP.

Finally, I went back in and placed my Sale-a-bration benefits order... I only qualified for one stamp at 31.95 so you guessed it! I picked up the Occasions Alphabet. Take a look at the page that this is on and you'll see how they cut apart one of the stamped word sets to add dimension to the card. Totally cool.

If all works out, I'll have three days to work out some ideas next week...and gear yourself up, I'll experimenting with liquid starch. Remember that trick? I think that it might be an awesome technique to use with the new colors. Of course, I'm forever searching for the right "ocean like" effect.

OK, now even though I ordered all this.... I totally want that Christmas box that you see at the top of the entry !!! Help me find someone who might want to sign up as a hobby demo for $99 dollars. That box has stamps from the upcoming Holiday mini... and seems really neat. Maybe I'll just try to case it from the photo. http://www.stampinup.com/us/enu/20882.asp http://www.stampinup.com/us/documents/Starter_Kit_Flyer_0711_JULY_US.pdf

Directions for the technique

Crumple the wax paper and create as much distress, lines, etc. as possible. Flatten the wax paper out.

Put down newspapers.

Now make a wax paper "sandwich."
Glossy paper (glossy side up) on newspapers.
Wax paper over the glossy paper.
A second layer of glossy paper (glossy side down) on top of the the wax paper

Iron top pieces of glossy paper for 20 seconds or so.

Lift iron and let cool a few seconds. Discard wax paper.

If you look at the glossy (try to avoid leaving fingerprints) you should see lines of wax throughout.

Once cooled you can add ink. It looks so much like batik! And, if you use ripped paper to added layers, you can make it look like the ocean waves. We used the new in colors and the surf boards from the mini to great effect.

The new catalog

Last comment, I promise. I am having a wonderful time going through the catalog and deciding which will be my go to stamps this year. I noticed that they sets with smaller architectural elements (Nature's Pace (?)) and others with great detail (must have Sunflower!).

The other set that I am getting asap is Occasions Alphabet. It replaces (and I think "one ups") a set from the last few years. Good news is that this is clear so I don't have to worry about storage.

I put together a chart (what or why) of the papers that go with each of the DSP. The most common colors aren't surprising...Basic Black, Whisper White and Very Vanilla.

But the other papers most often listed to coordinate with the DSP are

Old Olive, Early Expresso, Soft Suede, Marina Mist, Blushing Bride and Peach Parfait.

The first DSP papers that I am going to mess with are Beau Chateau and Mocha Morning. You can plan on viewing a number of these papers at the next meeting, July 23.

STAMP Club

I *think* that Rose, Pat, Andrea, and Jackie have said that they are interested in doing a club.

Ya Hoo! I just heard from Colleen. She has been seduced by the cup cake call and will be joining our stamp club.

We are now six (please pardon the Winnie the Pooh reference).

Panera Bread for March 26th 4-9

I've reserved Panera Bread for March 26th 4-9. It will be everything Cup Cake.

3 cards will be made using the new Cupcake punch (121807) and stamp set (121982) along with a few of the new stamp sets (I'll have various sentiments available, so you can make these into birthday, thinking of you, or celebration cards).

But! I also intend to have the Bring on the Cake stamp set (121958) which has a variety of Birthday wishes.

I also plan on having a modified version of this ready for you, http://inkingidaho.blogspot.com/2009/06/box-of-cupcakes.html (things will be ready to put together). Although the cards are somewhat simple, it does make a nice presentation.

Last day for the Sale-a-bration Catalog special is March 31. I am placing an order on the 15th so let me know if you have anything you would like to order. If you just want to do this yourself, you can go to my website and place an order electronically, http://www.stampinup.net/esuite/home/elizabethmahoney/.
